How painful is it to pay your cell phone bill every month? Does it sting a little? Do you feel like it’s worth the money? If you’ve ever felt like you’re paying too much or would just like to save money on your cell phone costs, here are some tips to help you save money on your phone bill. And remember…every dollar you save can go toward something fun, like your vacation fund.
1. Cut it Off
Yep, one suggestion for saving money on your cell service is not to have it at all. This may seem like a drastic measure. However, while we usually think of cell phones as something that gives us more freedom, do you ever feel like always being connected and accessible makes you less free? Think about it.
2. Make Sure Your Plan is a Good Fit
There are a huge variety of cell phone plans available from different carriers. If you find you have data left over every month, you can probably cut back on that — and the cost. And if you don’t travel much outside your local area, then perhaps you can opt for a carrier that doesn’t offer such wide coverage. You can often save money by switching. Also, evaluate whether you really need that insurance for your phone.
3. Switch Phones
Many would argue that all cell phones aren’t create equal — and they might be correct. But do you really need all the bells and whistles of an expensive smart phone, or can you get by with calling and texting on a more basic phone? These days, a lot of carriers will have you pay off your phone by adding that cost to your monthly bill…from around $25 per month and WAY up from there. You can probably save on your bill by using a cheaper phone, or keeping yours around for longer after it’s paid off.
4. Go Paperless
Believe it or not, a lot of cell phone companies these days will give you a discount if you switch to paperless billing. It’s probably only about $5 monthly, but a saving tip, is a savings tip! It’s something that’ll add up with the rest of these tactics to save you money over time. You might get a bigger discount for setting up automatic payments.
