Everyone wants to be successful; and usually, we tend to define success as having certain things. But what if, to be successful, you should actually be giving some things up? Here are a few things you might want to give up in order to achieve meaningful success.
1. Unhealthy Habits
If you don’t take care of your health, how can you enjoy your successes? Quitting bad habits is one of the best ways to take care of yourself.
2. Don’t Make Excuses
If you take responsibility for your life — no matter where you are right now — that’s the best place to start making it better. If you don’t acknowledge that your current situation is yours to own — no excuses — you’ll have a hard time changing it.
3. Forget the Magic Bullet
Whatever it is: wealth, weight loss, health, business — overnight success just doesn’t happen. What you need to be successful is a plan, along with the action to make it happen. If you’re waiting for a magic bullet, you are unlikely to have that plan.
4. Give Up on Perfectionism
Don’t let fear of failure push you to overzealous perfectionism. The more pressure you put on yourself to be perfect, the more opportunities will pass you by while you’re fussing with things. Conditions may not be perfect, but taking “good enough” action is usually your best bet.
5. Control
Sometimes we fear losing control, when giving up some of that control is actually the best thing that could happen. Detach yourself from what you can’t control, and focus on the things you can. And at work or home, think of delegating responsibilities so you can do your best on the most important things. You’ll help others blossom as well.
6. Saying Yes All the Time
You don’t have to say yes to everything. Stop being a people-pleaser and focus on things that support the goals of you and your family.
