As travelers know, most airlines charge baggage fees for checked bags. But one of the best ways to save money on baggage fees is to use carry-on bags for your travel needs. But can it be done? You bet it can! Here are some carry-on tips to help you save money on baggage fees when you travel.
Save Money On Baggage Fees
If you travel, you know that even though airlines love to charge fees for checked bags and overweight bags, they do allow you a carry-on bag. The only downside is that carry-on bags are generally smaller and also have weight restrictions. But it is possible to pack all you need in one carry-on bag. Here are some tips to help!
Packing a carry-on is all about making the most of the space you’ve got. So pack your shoes with the soles facing the outsides of the bag. Stuff things like underwear and socks inside the shoes. Jewelry also fits nicely inside your shoes.
Use compression bags to pack your clothes. Compression bags keep air out and make it much easier to pack more in a tight space. You just have to be careful about the weight limit and not over-pack.
Along with your carry-on, use your allowed personal bag for extra packing space. It is acceptable as long as the bag will fit underneath the seat directly in front of you.
Save money on baggage fees and choose a soft-sided carry-on rather than a hard shell suitcase. A soft-sided bag has more give and more easily squeezes into tight spaces {like the overhead bin}.
If you can, wear your most bulky clothing items on the flight to save space inside your carry-on.
For a long trip when you need to take more stuff, be aware of the airlines that allow a free checked bag or even two {like Southwest}. Most international airlines allow one free checked bag, so if you’re traveling abroad that’s a definite help for your travel wardrobe!
