Whether you’re between jobs, saving for something specific, or simply a little low on cash, it’s always a good idea to make some extra money. While there are certainly a lot of scams out there waiting to take advantage of you, there are also a lot of legitimate ways to earn some money in your spare time. Here are 12.

1. Rent Stuff

Not someone else’s stuff…your stuff. There’s a website called Rentmyitems.com where you can rent out anything that someone else might want to use (sports equipment, costumes, game consoles, etc).

2. Sell Photos Online

You don’t need to be a professional photographer to sell photos online. In fact, a lot of people are willing to pay you for photos that they can use on their website, etc. If you have a decent camera, set up an account on Shutterstock to offer your pics for sale and take a cut of the price.

3. Work for This Amazon Site

Amazon’s Mechanical Turk pays you for completing quick tasks online. It’s free to sign up, just keep an eye out for things you want to do.

4. Purge Your Device Drawer

How many old phones have you got in that junk drawer? What about MP3 players or cameras? You can list them on an auction site or sell them to companies who are looking to buy.

5. 5 Bucks a Pop

Fiverr lets you advertise many different services. Create a quick video, write a classified ad, create a testimonial, etc. It’s billed as a “5 dollar marketplace,” but you can actually charge up to $300.

6. Sell Stuff on Amazon

Got some books, DVDs, games, or other items collecting dust? Sell them on Amazon’s marketplace. If you set a good price, you might be surprised how fast your items sell.

7. Rent Your Garage or RV Pad

There are always people looking for a space to store boxes of stuff, their trailer, or their boat. If you have the space, try renting it out by advertising on JustPark or Parklet.

8. Write Reviews

Most of us have written a positive — or negative — online review. Did you know you can get paid to review music?

9. Survey Says…

You can make money filling out online surveys and participating in focus groups. Search for local market research firms, or for paid survey websites.

10. Rent a Room

If you have an extra bedroom or even some space in your yard you don’t mind letting people camp on, you can rent out that space on Airbnb.

11. Become an Artisan

If you love to sew, paint, knit, or have another knack for making stuff, try opening your own shop on Etsy.

12. Teach

You don’t have to possess a teaching certificate to show people how to do something you’re good at. Run classes in person by running local ads, or post your course on Udemy. From foreign languages to tying fishing flies, people want to learn.
