September 17, 2019 by Hailey Harris Leave a Comment

Do you have kids at home, or kids living on your street? If you do, chances are you’ve been approached about buying a coupon book for a school fundraiser. Sometimes the coupon book is in the form of a discount card, but either way they tend to cost you 20 to 30 dollars to get the coupons. If you’ve ever wondered if forking out for one of those coupon books actually saves you money, you’re not alone! We can help you decide.

Should You Buy Coupon Books?

If your biggest reason for buying a coupon book is to support your favorite school or charity, then maybe you are fine with using a few of the coupons and not getting much out of it. And there’s nothing wrong with that sort of donation!

However, if you are buying a coupon book because you really want to save money on restaurants, entertainment and shopping options, know that the savings are all in how you use the book. If you use it right, then the coupons can definitely be worth the cost.

How To Get The Most From A Coupon Book

In order to get the most from the coupon book you buy, you need to be strategic about using it. Don’t toss it in a drawer or lose it in a pile of stuff and forget about it. Make sure that you make a plan for using it, or you probably won’t.

Keep in mind that today’s coupon books are easier to use. You can now access it via a smartphone. You still need to remember what coupons you have so you can use them.

Go through the book and tear out the coupons you’re going to use. If there are coupons in there for places you normally go, make sure you use those.

Add up the possible discounts from the coupons you plan to use, and if they total more than the cost of the book, then it is surely worth the upfront cost to buy the book. If you can thumb through it before you buy, take note of discounts you would feasibly use to judge whether the book is worth the cost to you.

Should you decide that coupon books won’t really save you any money, know that there are ways to get printable coupons–for free!
