You may be wondering how to save money as a couple. It really is easier than saving money on your own, but you need to follow some guidelines to successfully save money as a couple. These are smart money-saving tips that every couple should know about. And you should definitely talk about them before you get married or live together.

  1. One of the first things you can is go on cheap date nights. Date nights are important for the health of your relationship, but that doesn’t mean they have to cost a lot of money. Check out free concerts, take a hike together or stay in for movie night.
  2. Before you furnish a new place together, take advantage of yard sales and thrift shops for your home furnishings. You might surprised at the great stuff you can find that won’t break the budget.
  3. This is especially important for when you get married, but take the time to consolidate as many bills as you can. Setting up a shared cell phone plan, car insurance plan, and other things such as your Netflix subscriptions will save you money over keeping separate accounts.
  4. Unnecessary expenses, such as magazine subscriptions and the cable bill are some you might seriously consider letting go.
  5. Learn how to grocery shop effectively. Clip coupons, shop the sales, and buy certain items in bulk to save as much as you can.
  6. When you vacation, look for ways to save. Watch for travel deals. Stock your hotel room fridge with items for breakfast and/or lunch to save on eating costs.
  7. Decide as a couple what your money goals are. Plan how to achieve them, and then live by the plan.
  8. If you and your significant other are paying student loans, it pays to consolidate them into one payment. You’ll save on monthly payments and interest over the life of the loan!
