Would you like to know how to save money on new landscaping? Because there are some great ways to landscape and save money at the same time. It may not seem like it at the outset, but dig into this post before you start digging outside. I’ll show you how doable it actually is.

Learn

In other words, do your research before beginning your landscape project. County or university extension experts offer free advice, so take advantage of that and learn all you can. Learning ahead of time could save you a lot of money in expensive mistakes.

Compare

Part of doing your research is checking out prices at different home stores and nurseries to find the best deals on the best quality plants. You can also find great deals at online nurseries such as Direct Gardening.

Share

You can save money on landscaping by sharing with your neighbors. For example, go in together on the price to rent tools or equipment that you may both need use of. It’s also a great idea to share plants. If you love some of the plants your neighbors have, let them know you’re interested in sharing the next time they divide plants such as day lilies or peonies. Just promise to return the favor when you have plants to share. Sharing also helps when there’s work to be done. If you help your neighbors and they help you, that’s a pretty great thing!

Buy Used

Used tools work just as well as new tools–and often for a fraction of the price. Check out garage sales and flea markets to find usable tools you need.

Be Inspired

Know what you like and how you would like your landscaping to look. Get inspiration from home & garden magazines, other yards in your city, and even Pinterest!

Go With Annuals

Perennial flowers are a bigger investment, so offset that by purchasing some seed packets of your favorite annuals. If anything, it’ll give you some good practice with starting and growing from seed.

Watch the Foundation

Don’t plant trees closer than 30 feet to your home. It might be fine for a while, but you risk spending thousands to repair damage done by tree roots years down the road.

Visit Construction Sites

If you take the time to visit construction sites, you might be able to get hold of cheap materials for your landscape, such as bricks, stones, or pavers. These things are often just going to be hauled to the dump, so offer to haul it away and you could get it for a song!

That’s just a few of the many ways to save money on landscaping. Most of all, if you’re willing to put in the work, you’ll save money by not paying someone else. And the sense of accomplishment is worth more than any amount!
