There are definitely better places to retire than others, but the end decision also depends upon the type of lifestyle you wish to live during retirement. New Hampshire is one of the best states for retirement. The reasons include a low tax rate, low crime rate, good health care quality, and excellent cultural offerings. One thing to take into consideration is the weather–New Hampshire isn’t one of the warmest places out there!

Utah ranks high on the list of best {and most affordable} places to retire. Low taxes and good quality of health care make it a great place to live. If you enjoy a variety of seasons and plenty of outdoor activities, Utah provides all of those! Known for is high elevation, one motto states that Utah is life elevated. After seeing some of the photos, I would have to agree.

South Dakota might not come to mind as one of the best places to retire, but it actually is, for a lot of reasons. South Dakota consistently scores high for the well-being of its residents, plus the low tax rate. There are also lots of outdoor activities and places to enjoy, including Badlands National Park.

There’s a reason Florida is consistently high on the list of destinations for retired couples. It’s warm, there’s lots of sunshine, and taxes are pretty low. It doesn’t rank as well in health care quality, so take that into consideration.

North Carolina ranks very high on the list of best states for retirement. The weather is desirable without being too hot, and both the taxes and cost of living are low.

Retirement experts recommend choosing a city and state that has a population greater than 10,000. Areas that are less populated run the risk of having a lower level of human services, particularly for the aging. The place you choose should be growing, have a low crime rate, and be close to good medical care. Elements such as natural parks, cultural attractions, and historic monuments may be worth considering.
